What is Bible Paper?

Bible paper, also known as "India paper", is a kind of:

• Ultra-thin  : The thickness is usually around 30-50 g/m² (generally photocopy paper is 70-80 g/m²).

• High Strength  : Although thin, it is very durable and not easy to tear.
• Ink-proof  : Suitable for double-sided printing, not easy for ink to penetrate.

• Aging resistance  : Very suitable for books with high preservation requirements.

These features make it very useful when you need to print a lot of text but don't want the book to be too thick or heavy.

Ultra-thin pulping process

• Use a high-pressure grinder to make the pulp more fine and uniform

• Control concentration and fluidity for thin layer coating and casting

 Papermaking (forming)

Using a professional high-speed Fourdrinier Machine to make ultra-thin paper:

• The pulp is evenly spread on the mesh

• Rapid water removal

• The fibers are quickly shaped to form a uniform and extremely thin layer

• Control thickness between 30–50 gsm (g/m²)

 Calendering and surface treatment

• After the supercalendering , the surface of the paper is pressed very smooth

• Lightweight coatings may be used (but not too thick, as this will affect breathability and elasticity)

• Add anti-yellowing and moisture-proof ingredients (to improve shelf life)

 Inspection and cutting

• Strictly check the paper:

  • Thickness (micron level control)

  • Opacity (usually > 80%)

  • Tear strength, tensile strength

  • Ink penetration (pen/ink/double-sided printing test)

• Cut into rolls or sheets suitable for printing
